Glove Sizing Systems Explained
US Sizes
Letter-based scale from XS to XXL. The most common system in North America. Simple and easy to remember, though less precise than numeric systems.
European (EU)
Numeric scale based on hand circumference in French inches (pouces). Sizes typically range from 6 to 11.5. Used across most of continental Europe.
UK Sizes
Numeric scale matching the EU system. Sizes range from 6 to 11.5 and correspond directly to hand circumference measurements. Used in the United Kingdom.
Glove Sizing Tips
Measure your dominant hand. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger. Always size gloves to the larger hand for the best fit.
Measure around the knuckles. Wrap a tape measure around your hand at the widest point, across the knuckles, excluding the thumb.
Consider the glove material. Leather gloves stretch and conform over time, so a snug fit is ideal. Fabric and synthetic gloves do not stretch as much.
When between sizes, go up. A slightly loose glove is more comfortable than one that restricts movement. This is especially important for work gloves.
Finger length matters too. If your fingers are long relative to your palm width, you may need to try different brands, as finger proportions vary between manufacturers.
